In the Neighbourhood Plan, Strategic Policy 7 – SPF Strategic Policy 7 (SP7):
Protecting and Enhancing the Historic Environment draws on the Hastings Heritage Strategy and Action Plan
The following points have been noted on this report and the linked policy
1. para 4.0 (p16) – references – nothing on the strategy for CVCP
2. Through the lists of sites, only passing reference to CVCP. Filsham Reedbed is noted as a Wildlife TrustT and the Combe Valley SSSI is shown on the maps
3. Para 6.5 Landscape and ecological value references CVCP
4. Para 7.3 Involvement – Local Community Organisations – none identified – NB the way the Heritage Plan was outsourced rather than doing it via Hastings Heritage Forum, missed an opportunity to involve a local organisation with links across the community in the preparation of this Action Plan
5. General point that West St Leonard’s history is largely ignored.
(a) There is reference to St Mary’s Church Ruin,
but not to
(b) the Bull Inn with its long history and the community on Galley Hill
(c) the ancient history of the area, the changing estuary of Combe Haven, with inland ports pre Roman as well as Viking times
(d) the recent 19th and 20th Century industrial history, in particular around the development of the railways as well as the light industrial centre for Hastings – the steam laundry, brick works, and just outside the borough boundary the gas works now the site of the Ravenside Shopping Centre
(e) The leisure industry – reference is made to the St Leonards Pier and the Bathing Pool – both lost and a lack of interest shown by the Borough in enabling the area to develop
6. SO3 – the notes on this strategy concentrat on Hastings Old Town, ignoring West St Leonards
7. Bulverhythe and Glyne Gap 4C25
(a) Information on the shore line in West St Leonards is available onthe shoreline planning documents

The map is available by clicking here
(b) There are the specific possibilities
i. Develop the old Bathing Pool Site as a destination site for visitors and local people
ii. Improve the shopping area in Bexhill Road
iii. Improve access to West St Leonards Station
iv. Expand West St Leonards Station with a platform on the Bexhill line, east of the old West Marina Station
(c) Throughout West St Leonards improve cycle routes – both east west and north south
(d) Improve signposting
(e) Designate and protect the open spaces in West St Leonards.
9. The Action Plan needs to include reference to the needs of West St Leonards
